I have searched without success to discover how to modify the /etc/chatscripts/provider file to prevent my US Robotics ext modem from making horrible noises when dialing up to the internet. Is there a kind soul out there that can help me? I would be most grateful for some help on this.

There is not a volume control on the modem, and I had already tried the string 'ATZM0L0' without success. I would be grateful if anyone has any other suggestions.
