run xwin applicaton over gnome from root user


Hi Guys,

I am working with gnome as a mortal user different to root.
When I run any xwin application as root from term this cant find the xwin.
I set DISPLAY var in root enviroment, and i set xhost + as my user, but this is still not working

Thanx!

"xwin application"? Is this the same as GUI application? If it is, then the easiest way is to install gksu and run the GUI app, for example gedit, like this: "gksu gedit"

dude the XSERVER is not configured natively to allow connections with su. The server will deny you that way everytime.

use 'xsu' instead. download it if you don't have it on your cdrom.

that works when your in Gnome

set the display variable in your .bashrc, /etc/profile as well as /root/.bashrc

by the way, it's considered bad "Mojo" for root to use xserver. ask any guru. it's considered dangerous, especially in a complex desktop environment like gnome or kde. Kde's session manager kdm doesnt' allow root log ins by default also.

read the guide at tldp.org for a tutorial on "intro to linux". No pun intended.
