I changed in /etc/postfix/master.cf
Code:
smtp inet n - y - 100 smtpd
Code:
# ls /var/spool/postfix
active corrupt deferred flush incoming maildrop private public trace var
bounce defer etc hold lib pid prng_exch saved usr
and now it seems to work.

my line is as follows:

Code:
smtp inet n - - - - smtpd -v
per the link I gave, which works. I thought the default was yes so the 'y' was not needed. Could be mistaken.
