Problems with Kaffeine

When I run kaffeine to play a video or mp3, the process almost always sticks around after I close the window and uses up all my free CPU resources. I figured I'd just compile it from source to see if that makes any difference, but I get this error message when I run configure:

"in the prefix, you've chosen, are no KDE headers installed. This will fail.
So, check this please and use another prefix!"

I searched around on google and some people recommended installing kdelibs4-dev and using the --prefix option, but I get this error message when I apt-get kdelibs4-dev:

"The following packages have unmet dependencies:
kdelibs4-dev: Depends: libfam-dev
E: Broken packages"

libfam-dev depends on libfam0, and attempting to install libfam0 makes apt want to uninstall almost everything else on my computer! It's not too important that I compile Kaffeine myself, but it's pretty frustrating that trying to do so causes me so much trouble. Any suggestions on either fixing my Kaffeine package or getting the required headers so I can compile it? I'm running Debian Etch and GCC version is 3.3.6.

Well, I've done alot of reading a searching, and it turns out I may have been partially to blame for why I couldn't install the kde headers. Apparently one of the required libs that Kaffeine was saying it needed (libfam) was conflicting with alot of other packages. I installed it earlier in the process before trying to get kde-devel and they don't like eachother I guess. Running apt-get -f install removed fam and libfam, which enabled me to install kde-devel, or so I had hoped. Attempting to install kde-devel installed a whole bunch of other depentants, but kdebase-dev refused to install. Here's the error message I got:

Unpacking kdebase-dev (from .../kdebase-dev_4%3a3.3.2-1_i386.deb) ...
dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/kdebase-dev_4%3a3.3.2-1_i386.deb (--unpack):

Unpacking libkonq4-dev (from .../libkonq4-dev_4%3a3.3.2-1_i386.deb) ...

Unpacking kde-devel (from .../kde-devel_5%3a44_all.deb) ...
Errors were encountered while processing:
/var/cache/apt/archives/kdebase-dev_4%3a3.3.2-1_i386.deb
/var/cache/apt/archives/libkonq4-dev_4%3a3.3.2-1_i386.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

Right now I'm just running Konstruct to build KDE 3.4.1 to upgradefrom the existing 3.3.2. Hopefully that will solve the problem.
