Problem with network-manager-gnome

I'm running network-manager-gnome on a laptop and just can't seem to get it working as it should. It always shows disconnected even if the cable is plugged in (and working fine). I've tried testing and unstable versions but they seem to be the same.

I have little options in n-m, if since wireless completely disappeared after the installation of broadcom driver (m-a a-i broadcom-sta) which is the right driver for this laptop and used to work fine on other installs. It's only showing Cabled network with device not managed and a VPN option.

Any clues on how to get this going?

regards

If you are on wired only, remove network manager completely and do your network settings from /etc/network/interfaces.

If you use wireless as well, install wicd and remember to change the wireless interface in its settings to eth1.

(if the above do not make sense, please ask for more accurate instructions)

Well, today by miracle (apt-get dist-upgrade) it started working...needed a small change in config and all is fine now!

Regards
