problem running X on recent Debian

I have difficulties running Xorg on the recent debian (11.0). When I start X with startx or xinit (this is minimum embedded system); the X window drops after a few seconds. However, if I remove .xsession, X works ok (with default WM). Even, if the .xsession is empty or contain only commands the X drops. All previous debian versions including recent testing versions worked as expected. Only I have trouble with the recent stable version. No evident error was logged in either Xorg.log or .xsession-errors.
Questions:
Is .xsession deprecated?
Or there is possible bug in the recent stable version.
I would appreciate any comment.

There is always a bug, but this most likely isn't one.

We'd need to see the contents of that file, and the Xorg log showing why exactly it chokes and on what.

BTW, I never start X with xinit, I always use startx.

.xsession is like .xinitrc - the last command should be long-running. When it exits, the X session ends.

Check the last command to make sure that it is not exiting prematurely.

it is working, but I'm not sure why?

The good news; it is working now, ie; the startx is working, but xinit is not.
The bed news I'm not sure why?
Here what I've done:
- changed permission for all /dev/tty* (it was complaining about accessing tty console).
- changing .xesssion to .xssesionrc (started working at this point).
- checking if .xsessionrc/(.xsession) is executable (it does not matter).
- going back with all these changes (including removing the permissions); still working OK.

In conclusion, I cannot repeat the original problem. It happened this a first time with this setup. I'll try to examine logs carefully and if I find something, I'll post the warning here.

Thank you for your help. Let me know if you have any suggestion how to investigate this.

Lesson learned.

Thank you for the last valuable and thoughtful comment. This comment remained me how insignificant I am. Following the advise, I have retraced my action from the beginning (including reinstalling Debian). The conclusion is; that I haven't leave enough space in home directory (most likely, embedded). Since, all X's log files are in user space, I could not retrace the error and behavior was different with different setup (very nasty).
The lesson learned: pay attention what you are doing.
Thank you very match for your last important comment.
