Question Problem regarding accentuation signs and the 'Alt' key

Hi all, I'm very new to debian, I just installed 'Sarge' yesterday but I have a problem regarding accentuation signs and the 'Alt' key. Ok I have a spanish keyboard and must use accentuation signs. First the alt key was working fine but when I tried to use the accentuation signs (i.e. 'ó ö') it used to put the sign before the letter I was writing (not upon it as it should go; i.e 'o "o). To solve the problem, I edited the /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file and changed the "xkbVariant" option from "nodeadkeys" to "deadkeys"; now the accentuation signs work fine, but I can't use the 'Alt' nor the 'Alt Gr' keys, thus I can't write the basic signs like the 'at' sign, and that's a big problem. Does anyone know how to solve it?

Also, I've noticed the packages for debian sarge are quite old; is there a way to upgrade all the packages to the latest versions (for example, I want to use the latest version of KDE and amarok, and the rest of the packages as well), so, how to upgrade the entire system? (I'm used to FC4 where you just type 'yum update' and the entire system is upgraded)

Thanks in advance.

Can't help with the keyboard problem, but for upgrading packages...
echo -e "deb ftp://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ testing main contrib non-free\ndeb-src ftp://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ testing main contrib non-free" >> /etc/apt/sources.list && apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade

Thumbs up

Ok, I solved the keyboard problem by issuing the command 'setxkbmap es', now both, the accentuation signs and the 'Alt' keys work fine. I'll try the command you told me to upgrade my system. If I have any problem I'll let you knonw.

Thanks for your help.
