Problem maximing windows

After installing debian sarge, i had to reconfigure XFree-86 configuration file to display my screen resolution which is 1280 X 768 (wide-screen), after i did this the fonts look good and evrything, but maximizing my windows gets them out of the viewable screen (to my right), so i have to manually resize all of them i've looked at many threads in google but it seems nobody has had this problem. Any clues??

BTW: - Graphics Card is ATI Radeon 9500
- Monitor is Dell W1700 LCD-TV

First, check from your monitor's manual that the horizontal and vertical refresh ranges you have specified in "dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86" are correct.

This page http://reviews.zdnet.co.uk/hardware/...9148085,00.htm suggests that your HorizSync range is 31-61 kHz and VertRefresh range 56-75 Hz, but you should trust your monitor's manual instead.

After specifying the correct refresh ranges, it depends on the window manager that you use how it manages windows.

found the source to the prob

the problem is my driver. I was usiing the "ati" driver provided by XFree and that was causing the problem.
Now I'm using the vesa driver and windows work but quality sucks. Any Ideas? prpietary ati drive?

Have you tried hitting the auto adjust button on your monitor? This should adjust the screen to fit your desktop.
