out of inodes in a 'Squid analysis report generator'

Hello
we had set a computer to log squid using sarg.
suddenly it stopped logging. I read the syslogs and I get 'no space left on device'... df -h gives there are still 2gb free.
df -i tells me that I have used 100% of inodes.
the notion of inodes is not clear to me as it's the first time it happens to me.
how could I add inodes/reconfigure the hard disk.. I assume it's because of the logging of sarg that creates several little tiny files ...
if someone could clear it up I would be very grateful. I realized that no reports have been generated since january 18th which is somewhat troubling.
thank you very much.

The amount of inodes is set when you create an Ext2/ext3 FS and can't be modified later: you'll have to recreate the filesystem which is a destructive ops, or switch to Reiser with which it seems you can't run out of inodes. Please inform yourself of the differences between Reiser and Ext before switching.

either way it's a destructive operation? or the file system can be converted without losing data? the most important issue here is stability... we can't afford to lose any data. it's reiserfs reliale enough, at least as reliable as the other filesystems such as ext or others.
thank you.

I already said it's destructive, right?

Some say yes, some say no. If you look at threads in the the LQ fora you'll see more people having problems with Reiser than with Ext. Of course it differs per situation so if you need more arguments or justification you'll have to find an objective report somewhere. I can't give you pointers for that.
