how about only ssh? is there any way to type the registered name used by ddclient and get access to the machine?

ssh yourmachine.no-ip.com

provided you have everything configured correctly you should hook right up. from outside your network the no-ip name and the public IP address are interchangeable.

For SSH remember to open port 22 in your firewall and forward that port from your router if you have one.
