No Ethernet Access
Recently, I installed Debian squeeze on an old Dell Optiplex machine using a usb0 'Ethernet Gadget' modem. The environment is LXDE. It did have Win XP on it, which the ethernet nic worked at the time.
For Christmas I gave the computer to my grandkids, who have an ethernet modem at their house, but when we hooked the computer up, Squeeze is not picking up the ethernet interface.
I went into the Networking Manager and change the interface from usb0 to eth0 but still nothing. If I reboot the machine, it goes back to the usb device. Typing 'ifconfig eth0 up' does nothing, as does 'ifconfig -a' is not showing any ip address for the nic.
Now I wonder during the installation, did Squeeze install the ethernet drivers?
Any ideas/suggestions?
Thnx.
