Maximize and Close buttons missing with Squeeze

About a month ago I upgraded from Lenny to Squeeze and everything seemed fine.

But sometime between then and now I lost the maximize and close buttons (I still have the minimize)

This is only a minor annoyance for me but a major one for my wife.

I searched the web and some other forums but have found no help.

I am using Gnome 2.26.1

Thanks

Hi and welcome to LQ!
It's a good idea to both search this site and to google for answers to your problem. If you have it, then odds are other people have had it and solved it.

I did a quick google on gnome maximize close and found this:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=995849
and this
http://digg.com/linux_unix/Ubuntu_Ed..._Close_Buttons
Let us know if you need further help.
cheers,
jdk

I tried all that and my searches resulted in about the same results as yours. I read somewhere that this may be a xserver problem or a metacity problem. I did reinstall xserver with no results.

I read somewhere else that if I create a new user the buttons may show and then I just need to move a config file to my user and the problem would be solved.

Alas, the new user has the same problem.
