Unhappy Lockdown browser

Hi all,
I have enrolled in some training and they require the "lockdown browser".
Needless to say that a Linux version does not exist...
Any ideas on how to get that trick going?
Thanks
Melissa

How longs the class? If 3 months or less you can freely download the Windows 10 Enterprise ISO and install it in a VM, it comes with a 90 (180?) day usage.

Yea, and mess up the install I have now. But...and this is a good one...I could get a second hand laptop and put win10 on THAT...
That's an option.
I dont like the concept. This basically means installing spyware on the laptop...
I know what I will do after that exam: close the laptop and put it far far far far far far and far away, in a drawer, a dark one. Until I'm required to get myself assimilated again...
But, thanks for the tip, this may help...
Melissa
It shows again how discriminative industry is towards Linux...
Edit - it may not run in a vm...as the site says...

Well, in that case you don't have too many options. I PERSONALLY would ask whoever I'm taking the class for to provide a laptop that this could be run on, but that's me.

O, that is a good idea! I mean, come on, here I am forced to compromise my system.

Ditto. A lot of people are unaware there's a world outside Microsoft/Apple/Google, and the only way to make them aware is to make them aware, by saying something in these situations (whether the workaround of Windows in a VM works or not).

Hmm, I think I understand the point of lockdown broswer, if it is the only browser installed on the system and the user doesn't have have the ability to install another one (or use another computer). But using it on your own computer that you have full control over doesn't make any sense to me. Am I missing something?

When using the lockdown browser it grants the remote system control over your system, so it prevents you from launching programs, switching to other windows, etc.

Wow, thanks for the info. It's almost unfathomable to me that people are willing to give away complete control of their system like that. Crazy shit. Seems that this abomination should only ever be used on a throwaway VM.

And it (apparently) has detection scripts to see that it's in a VM and won't install there (never tested since I couldn't care less about Windows).

The rundown is that I made contact with "management".
Basically, they initially agreed to make a laptop available, whereas a few days later, they confirmed that it runs "on any alptop" - disregarding Linux.
Someone did'nt listen. As so many do...
Bottom line: I'll get a second hand laptop with the os required and keep that ONLY for exams. After the exam, I'll close the thing and put it in a drawer until the next test.
At the end of my schooling I'll put something decent on it...like (guess what?) Linux...
So be it...

Thank you.
One has to keep telling people about their mistakes.
I had a similar complaint where I studied, about pushing a Microsoft email account "solution" on the school's main page.
Because they otherwise appeared to be aware of "things", like not requiring pupils to use proprietary document formats, I believed they would listen. I think they understood, but of course nothing happened.
I must add that I wasn't actually forced to use Office 365 or whatever it was, the online platforms we used were FOSS.
Nevertheless, I think it's important to keep on pointing these things out.

You have to find IT aware people to talk to, though.
