loading modules

I know this must be a basic question; i've searched and read a couple of tutorials regarding modules but they are outdated.

Very simply, Id like to know the proper way to permanently load a specific module (ie. at boot). I am using debian sarge 2.6 kernel.

modprobe loads the module fine, but then at re-boot it is gone. I've seen solutions that involve scripting at boot, but this cannnot be the best way...

Please any help appreciated..!

i dont have any experience with debian, but i think there's usually some kind of modules file that says what modules are to be loaded at startup like /etc/modules.conf or rc.modules. adding your modules to that list should do it.
