OP, I think you easiest rout to install "everything" is as I pointed out above. If you just type aptitude at the root prompt it will give you a UI and things are devided up by section. At the beginning of each section all you need to do is push the + key and that entire group will be selected. Although bare in mind that since aptitude is doing "conflict resolution" for you, there will be some packages deselected as you go. So, for example if you want all of KDE, you may want to choose selecting it near the end of things.
