I had problem applying kernel patch 2.6.16 against Debian kernel source 2.6.15.
I did that this way(firstly unpacked patch file to /usr/src):
Quote:
cd /usr/src/
linux/scripts/patch-kernel linux
Current kernel version is 2.6.15 (Sliding Snow Leopard)
Applying patch-2.6.16 (plaintext)... The text leading up to this was:
--------------------------
|diff --git a/.gitignore b/.gitignore
|index 5014bfa..3f8fb68 100644
|--- a/.gitignore
|+++ b/.gitignore
--------------------------
File to patch: /*** Here i hit Ctrl+C ***/ failed. Clean up yourself.
cannot find patch file: patch-2.6.16.9999
|
I thing this is because my source isn't the original linux-2.6.15.tar.bz from kernel.org(from there i downloaded the patch) but a Debianized one.
Should i download Debian-specific kernel patches to update the kernel(i have dial-up connection)?
My distro is Debian Etch (20060328) amd64.
Sorry for asking such stupid question, i ame new to Debian.
