Big changes inevitably mean breakage - use stable if that's not something you want to deal with.
Yes, it's the price we pay for using more bleeding edge software. In fairness, I have to say that in all my years using Testing, events like this one are extremely rare.

It always happens at least once shortly after a release as major updates finally are allowed to come through, sometimes more, but as you say, it's the price you have to pay if you want to run Debian with fairly up to date programs.
At this point I have put kde-windows-manager on hold which will stop any attempts to upgrade it. Once the "all clear" has sounded I'll remove the hold status.
