Kali Linux root password recovery

Following some recommended fixes, in the grub, I change the "ro" to "rw" and add init=/bin/bash at the end before the "}" and save. Upon reboot, the system says init=/bin/bash in invalid. Looking for clarification on the please. /Roy

Since we don't know what these "recommended fixes" are/were, where you got them, what you're trying to accomplish by doing this, or have any details at all, what do you think we'll be able to tell you???

Kali is for experienced Linux users, and then only for pentesting/security testing...not daily use, and their own website tells you these things. Read the Kali links in my posting signature. And since you know what you did to break things, why can't you REMOVE what you did??

would it not be better to ask your quest in the kali forum? This is Debian and most debian users don't use kali.
Kali is sited by it's own devs that it is for experienced users not new comers to Linux.

IF you see a } here (vs .cfg files), you are totally lost (&should spend considerable time learning grub first).
