Join Debian Community?

Can anybody tell me what is the next step to join the Debian community?

There was a call for help by one the package maintainer here:

How to I reply to the maintainer? Do I have to use some specific tool to reply to the maintainer or can I just use my Yahoo account to reply back?

As you can see, both participants in that thread use their own emailaddresses to contact the list. Your reply should be to the mail itself: 484545(a)bugs.debian.org This way, all discussions are kept centralized, for all to read.
