I've recently installed linux on a really old piece of hardware as an internet gateway. It uses IP-masquerading and acts as a DHCP server for the internal clients.

It works great - many thanks to tldp howtos - but there's something else i'd like it to do:

can anyone tell me a simple way of logging sites visited (and files downloaded) by different users? If there's also a way of publishing this to the internal network then this would be great too.

I'm open to all suggestions - many thanks in advance for any that anyone can make.

Set up a caching server? Squid.

alternatively you could use iptables logging, then write a script to compile a list of sites visited and source ips. (although this is probably not the best way). I http proxy would probably serve you much better.
