Iceweasel 3.0.5 hotmail not working until changing "general.useragent.extra.firefox"
Has anyone else noticed that hotmail does not let you write anything until you change the useragent to "Firefox/3.03"?
Everything else seems to work but when you try to write a new email it lets you enter the subject but no text. I changed the useragent and suddenly it worked
The more you use iceweasel (and opera too) you'll occasionally come across websites that have their html code set up only to allow Firefox and IE browsers. In Opera, you mask the browser as IE or firefox, and iceweasel needs the agent changed. Many websites (especially with active x controls) only want those two browsers because their sites will look correct with those two browsers. If you have ever created a website, and load it with different browsers, you'll see how much it changes. Unfortunately for the windows world, they do not realize that iceweasel is the same browser (and other gecko browsers) as firefox and will load the page similarly. So, Hotmail will not be the last in your adventures.
Changing the user name is one of the first things I do , Google extensions and even some of the extensions on Mozilla won't install with the iceweasel user agent.
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.0.5) Gecko/2008122011 Firefox/3.0.5 (Debian-3.0.5-1)
Change User-Agent Header Tag:
Just write about:config in the url and then search the name:
* general.useragent.extra.firefox
Doubleclick the Iceweasel/### under Value and change the Iceweasel portion to Firefox.

Thank you for the info in this thread, it helped me to get the active x controls working in MS to attach files and have text appear in emails. Fortunately, I only lost a couple emails before being advised this was happening.
I would like to say for the record that I had already updated my general.useragent.extra.firefox value to "firefox" per another thread, and this did not work for me. It worked with a specific version, as suggested by jimdaworm above: "Firefox/3.03"
