Icecat not in $PATH for dmenu to pick-up. Devuan Jessie LXDE.

Hi, I am trying to get the portable version of IceCat to show up in dmenu. I have tried the following on my Devuan Jessie LXDE system:

$ sudo ln -s /home/user/bin/icecat/icecat /usr/local/bin

and

Code:

$ export PATH=$PATH:~/bin/icecat/icecat

I have even confirmed by running:

$ echo $PATH

The symlink doesn't work at all and the $PATH is no longer there after a reboot. I have been looking through the documentation as I would also like to set a

$ export PATH=$PATH:~/scripts

to use as a later time, but I haven't been able to find a solution that works. I am new to Debian and Devuan.

OK, I discovered that the paths are set in .bashrc and that there is a specific syntax. Everything shows up correctly in:

$ echo $PATH

so why isn't IceCat appearing in Dmenu? I included /home/user/bin/icecat as a seperate path.

I have tried deleting ~/.cache/dmenu_run and have restarted a number of times, so if it had something to do with ~/.profile, I should be covered as well...
