Check if you've got agp support in your kernel: "dmesg | grep agp". If this gives no output, you need to recompile or upgrade the kernel to get the proper agp support. If the kernel appears to detect your graphics card's chipset correctly, you just need to add it into the X config file with "dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86".
In other words, you don't need to add anything about agpgart into the X config file. If the agp support is in the kernel and the correct chipset is mentioned in the X config file, X should use the correct agpgart driver automatically.
Well, actually you CAN add something like:
Option "AGPMode" "1"
under Section "Device" but I haven't got the competence to give advices on using different AGPModes. For all I know, the basic agpgart support (the AGPMode "1" mentioned above) should be the default setting that doesn't need to be set specifically in the X config file.
You can check out how X actually configures your graphics card by studying /var/log/XFree86.0.log.
