How can I copy the wallpapers/screen savers from an old distro DVD??

Hi.
I'd like to copy all the wallpapers and screen savers from my old Debian DVD.
I have downloaded Debian etch testing, and it has very few wallpapers, but Debian 3.1 had many wallpapers and many screen savers (I have DVD1 and DVD2 of it). I want to copy all of them to my new Debian Etch, but I can't find anything in the Debian DVD. "Find" won't work since everything is packed in the DVD. But I tried it anyway with: find .... wallpapers and *.jpg. None of them worked for me.

That's it.
I hope you guys can help me.
Thanks.

You likely need to mount the DVD's ISO image on a loop device and browse thru it like a filesystem. This is I *think* how you might get what you want.
Let me know if it works, I'm curious too.

Hi. Thanks for the repply.
I didn't say I was trying to get these wallpapers from an ISO file of Debian. I want to get it from a Debian DVD (BURNED DVD).
As I said, I can't find any wallpaper folder, and I can't find any *.jpg file too, neither browsing nor using FIND.

Debian DVD, as far as I know, has everything PACKED (many folders with packages inside of it. Very few ordinary files), so all these wallpapers and screen savers must be in some special package. I wasn't able to find anything using "find /media/cdrom0 -name Wallpaper or *.jpg".

That's it. Thanks again.

Yes, I read your post, so I understand the question.
However, for the exact same reason that you are unable to locate many 'normal' files on the DVD, I suggest mounting the ISO of the disk. I assume that you burned the DVD yourself, and so by extension, that you have the ISO image lying around.
If this isn't the case, then I suppose it isn't an option. But if you DO have the .ISO, it might allow you to browse the DVD as a normal filesystem, where you *might* see 'normal' files.
As I said, It's just an idea; I'm not a filesystem expert, so I don't know if it will work.
As is you do see stuff, like packed archived stuff, you may have to spend some time with an archive browser or similar tool, to intuitively determine what you are seeing in the archive.
Here's another idea: If you have the space on a drive, do a quick install of the OLD system. Before rebooting it (unless you must reboot) go into the installation, grab what you want and save it elsewhere, then exit and delete/remove the installation.

Hi again.
I don't have the ISO files anymore. It's been a few years since I've burnt Debian 3.1.

Sorry for not understanding what you were trying to say.

I thought that we would get the same thing browing the burnt DVD or browsing the mounted ISO. I guess I was wrong then. Anyway, I don't have the ISOs anymore.

No problem but looks like the easiest thing to do is to a quick install of the thing, and go in and copy out what you want. Then remove or forget about the temporary install of the older version.

You would get the same results browsing the DVD as you would the ISO.

I'm not sure exactly which backgrounds/wallpapers you are looking for, but try searching the DVD for the following packages.

desktop-base
gnome-backgrounds
kdewallpapers

Depending on what DE you were running, these packages should cover most any background/wallpaper you would have had installed. You will be looking for the .deb files on the DVD, then you can use the following command to extract the contents of the package.
Code:
dpkg -x package.name
I won't get into the screensavers right now, but you can do some searching on Debian Packages to find the packages you are looking for. You might run into differences between versions with screensavers though.
