Help Me!! MSI Z490 installation & Realtek r8125 ethernet driver?

Hello out there!
I am going through the dickens with an MSI Z490 Motherboard getting the latest Debian 10.x.x to install. I have read that it is a problem with a couple of other boards. OpenSuSE installed just fine, but I LOVE the Debian distribution.

Why is it so hard to put an ethernet driver on an installation set? OpenSuSE did it.

I know the complete name of the module that is needed, and I picked up the code from Realtek. Simply, I don't know the workflow for making it available for an installation.

I'm more than a couple of steps above 'newbie,' but this is beyond me.

PLEASE HELP!
scott

Hi,
I have faced the same problem while installing Ubuntu. And there used to be Ubuntu Builder which allowed you to create a custom install image. I don't believe it is available anymore.

I have seen a number of unclaimed Realtek devices. Seems inconsistent why the devices work on one distribution and not on another.
This link should help but it should not been needed.

Hi,

did you try
Code:
apt install r8168-dkms
?

You'd need to have the network up using another device (and have the non-free repo configured/enabled).

Hi,

I have another post with a suggested way forward, but here I try to answer your question:

For Debian it's not about it being "hard" it's about policy. The official
Debian installers do not include non-free software. If you want an installer
with non-free software you might consider using one of the unofficial installation
image. See https://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/u...nonfree/amd64/
Please note that I didn't check if it these do actually includes what you need.
