fuser problem

Hi

When I was installing the gmailfs I've got this error:

linuxxunil:/home/linuxxunil/fuse/libgmail-0.0.8# modprobe: Can't locate module
fuse
fusermount: unable to open fuse device /proc/fs/fuse/dev: No such file
or directory

When I type "lsmod | grep fuse" nothing appeared.
I istalled fuse from a debian package.
I have this in my fstab

/usr/local/bin/gmailfs.py /gmail gmailfs
noauto,username=paolovas@gmail.com,password=***,fsname=zOlRRa

I installed fuse-source, fuse-utils, libfuse-dev from aptitude.

Do you guys have any idea why does this happen.

Never used it but from the looks of what you have installed you have to compile the module fuse because it is not listed in the fuse-utils. So have you compiled the fuse-source package?

Code:
>$ apt-file list fuse-utils
fuse-utils: usr/bin/fusermount
fuse-utils: usr/bin/fusermount
fuse-utils: usr/share/doc/fuse-utils/changelog.Debian.gz
fuse-utils: usr/share/doc/fuse-utils/changelog.Debian.gz
fuse-utils: usr/share/doc/fuse-utils/changelog.gz
fuse-utils: usr/share/doc/fuse-utils/changelog.gz
fuse-utils: usr/share/doc/fuse-utils/copyright
fuse-utils: usr/share/doc/fuse-utils/copyright
fuse-utils: usr/share/man/man1/fusermount.1.gz
fuse-utils: usr/share/man/man1/fusermount.1.gz
If the source package has a debian directory in it you should be able to use in the directory above it fakeroot debian/rules binary and get a .deb to install.

Thanks for your quick respose.

I've downloaded the listed packages with aptitude.
when I run "apt-file list fuse-utils" nothing was listed.

I was following the instructions from this page:

http://richard.jones.name/google-hac...ilesystem.html

Do you know what can I do ?

Do you have apt-file installed and have run apt-file update as root to refresh the package cache so there will be something to view?

Not much there but the general idea and what is included in the INSTALL file that should be inside the /usr/src/fuse.tar.gz that was installed when you got the fuse-source you do ./configure then make and lastly su -c 'make install' here you would need to enter root password when asked. This of course after having used tar -xzvf fuse.tar.gz in the /usr/src directory and then cd fuse-1.3 I am guessing this as I have not extracted the Debian file but you will see the directory that gets created when you extract with tar. And as I mentioned above if a debian directory is created in there then you can use that command to get a .deb to install. There is a changelog.Debian so there may be a good chance that this directory will exist at least this is how it normally works with Debianized source packages.

Code:
[HappyTux:/home/stephen]# apt-file list fuse-source
fuse-source: usr/share/doc/fuse-source/changelog.Debian.gz
fuse-source: usr/share/doc/fuse-source/changelog.Debian.gz
fuse-source: usr/share/doc/fuse-source/changelog.gz
fuse-source: usr/share/doc/fuse-source/changelog.gz
fuse-source: usr/share/doc/fuse-source/copyright
fuse-source: usr/share/doc/fuse-source/copyright
fuse-source: usr/src/fuse.tar.gz
fuse-source: usr/src/fuse.tar.gz

Thanks for your help but it seemed like my kernel is too old to support those modules.
