Unhappy fonts blurred and tiny in debian

I have a Pentium Celeron PC, with a SIS 6326 AGP video adapther.
After getting tired of Windows and its infinite problems I moved to Debian 3.0

It works absolutely fantastic but has one huge problem: the display of any desktop is awful.

With a 800x600 resolution fonts are blurred and tiny making it very hard to read. I changed to 640x 480 but it isn't nice to operate.

So, please tell me how may I solve this. Best if still using Debian but can change distro without problem.

-- Dist-upgrade your Debian system to Sarge (testing) or Sid (unstable). Install "kernel-image-2.6-686".
-- Read http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/answers/259
-- Run (as root) "dpkg-reconfigure -plow xserver-xfree86". Select the correct driver for your video card and the correct refresh rates for your monitor. If you've got enough RAM, select higher screen resolution.
-- Run (as root) "dpkg-reconfigure libpango1.0-common" and entrust font management to defoma.
-- Run (as root) "dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig". If you've got LCD display, enable sub-pixel text rendering. Enable the freetype autohinter module.
-- Install "msttcorefonts" and add the line
FontPath "/var/lib/defoma/x-ttcidfont-conf.d/dirs/TrueType"
to /etc/X11/XF86Config-4.

Hope this helps.
