fglrx problem kernel 2.6.22

Hi,

I have got debian testing with very few unstable packages
I did a kernel upgrade form 2.6.20 to 2.6.22. Everything worked smoothly, but now I am unable to load the fglrx driver . It install fine with module assistant, but does not load.
When I try and load fglrx:
Code:
FATAL: Error inserting fglrx (/lib/modules/2.6.22-20071009/misc/fglrx.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
Do as I am told and I get the following message with dmesg:
Code:
fglrx: Unknown symbol compat_alloc_user_space
I only could find a rather inconclusive post with a similar problem on Gentoo??
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

mcs

What version of fglrx, and how are you installing it?

You generally have to wait for ati to update their drivers to support newer kernels. I am running Debian Sid, and the 40.4 fglrx (latest for my card) does not support the latest X.Org, so its a case of waiting.

Incidentally. the next driver released should support composite without the need for XGL, so hopefully faster compiz.

Welcome to one of the downpoints of using proprietary drivers.

I'm using fglrx successfully with the 2.6.22-2 kernel. Use the 8.38.6 fglrx package. then "m-a a-i fglrx". Lenny tried to update my fglrx to 8.40.4-2 the other day, but I didn't let it, because it's finally working fine.

Thank you very much for the posts.

I am using 8.40.4-2
I wish I could use non-proprietary drivers....

Thanks for the advice again

http://packages.debian.org/stable/x11/fglrx-driver

Here's the current stable fglrx package... hope this might help.

Thank you very much. This is the 8.28 driver, so a bit older. However I found the 8.38 in my apt archives and it works fine now.
Thank you for the help, I have got 3D again!
Cheers
