This may be a simpler question to answer than I think, but I can't install ffmpeg on Debian Sid. At the ffmpeg site, they reference a repository run by a separate individual, and a little research seems to turn up issues that arise when that repository is added to sources.list.
ffmpeg shows up available for stable, but not for testing. This is difficult for me to comprehend. =)
Anyone using ffmpeg on Sid? The easy way was to just download the executable, but instantly I had issues with configuration so it appeared (did not recognize alsa). The next step barring someone knowing how to get it from the repositories is to download the code and just compile it. I have no real issues with that, but it is just odd to me it is not available from Debian Sid repositories.
Am I missing a repository I do not know about or something?
Apparently ffmpeg has been superseded by LibAV, the command being avconv.
I am going to leave this open for a few more hours in case anyone else has any insights. LibAV as it turns out is part of the generic Sid install though, so I will proceed from there.
Just a suggestion: use dh_helper or checkinstall, after you get it configured the way you want it. This way, when you want to upgrade to a newer version, you can remove the package. This way, hopefully, you won't have files all over that you no longer want there (if applicable).
