ethernet inferface goes down

HI there..

I just installed Debian sarge 3.1 and have installed apache2 along with mysql and qmail as a mail server...I set up the netwrok interface on a static ip and everything seems to me be fine i can ssh in fine, access apache etc.

After i run and work a bit remotely, or even if i do not and just leave the server running the interface goes down and i cannot connect but it comes back up after a short time... I looked into the systemlogs, kernel but nothing....

Anyone have any ideas why this may be caused or any specific logs i should look at ?

Thanks!

I have had this problem also, just installed Debian testing (etch) and sometimes I lose the connection to my ethernet modem and cannot access the internet. I can restore the connection by shutting down and rebooting my modem then starting up Debian again. It is not a major issue for me but quite annoying. ;l I am new to Debian so I don't know if this is a known issue or not but maybe someone with more experience could help us out here.

Regards.

Are you using ppp, pptp or ppoe? I suspect it has something to do with the 'keep alive' option. I haven't mastered that yet, so I'll have to advise to wait for someone more experienced in that field
