Easy debian way to remove the totem plugin player?

Hello,

I would rather to have mplayer instead of totem for firefox. I found by ubuntu that we can use mozilla-mplayer and shall do those:

Quote:
As I noted in another post relating to the same issue being painfully experienced by another user, there is a solution!

After I did the following, the mplayer plugin took over and I was finally able to see streaming QT and WM content in Firefox:

sudo mv /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/plugins/libtotem_mozilla.a /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/plugins/libtotem_mozilla.a_backup

sudo mv /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/plugins/libtotem_mozilla.xpt /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/plugins/libtotem_mozilla.xpt_backup

You might also have to rename the following if they exist (they weren't on my system):

sudo mv /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/plugins/libtotem_mozilla.la /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/plugins/libtotem_mozilla.la_backup

sudo mv /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/plugins/libtotem_mozilla.so /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/plugins/libtotem_mozilla.so_backup

I wish this info was added to the WIKI. Or at minimum this post should be made sticky since I am sure others will have exactly the same problems and experience the same frustration (unless they give up and use automatix).
is that really the easiest way, to get mplayer in mozilla?

Well, I don't think it is the easiest way to switch to mplayer plugin. I don't even think it is necessary to remove any plugins from firefox if you want to use another one. Just install any plugin you want, and than go to the plugin manager of firefox. Here you can disable the unwanted plugins. Later you can re-enable them.

apt-get remove totem-mozilla, apt-get install mozilla-mplayer or gecko-mediaplayer if your on testing/sid.

Package: totem-mozilla
Priority: optional

I guess that there is no way to install gecko-mediaplayer without installing gnome-mplayer as well. Apt says that the mozilla-mplayer package is deprecated.

Any suggestions are welcome...
