Does anyone here use dselect at all ? For the new user this si too hard. However, down the road is this a good tool ? Does dselect solve dependency problems better than apt ? If apt doesn't get dependencies will dselect get them ? Please share any other dselect experience that you may have.
Occasionally. Usually apt-cache search <foo> followed by apt-get install <bar> requires less time and effort... Aptitude is also useful when you simply wish to browse through the packages.
I don't use deselect at all. I don't even use it during the initial install. It's as bad as using just plain old rpm. I don't really see a point in doing so myself. You can apt whatever you need. I just go with the absolute minimum install and just apt everything I want from there.
dselect is what made me initially give up on debian. when the other tools are easier, less intimidating, and better tools for the job, what's the point of it existing?
I hate it with the passion of 40,000 honeymooning lovers.
