dpkg commands taking too long

Hello,

All of the commands that use the dpkg are taking too long to complete. For example a "dpkg-query -W --showformat '${Status} ${Package} ${Version}\n'" takes more than 5 minutes. Other machine with the same caracteristics and processment, takes much less time. I've done a strace against the process and received this output:

Process 29872 attached - interrupt to quit

It takes too much time on the brk() lines.
Any idea?

Did you find anything?
brk is used by malloc:
http://209.85.129.104/search?q=cache...ag.com/id/827/

Are your libc the same?

It's the same libc6: libc6 2.3.2.ds1-22sarge6

Machine specs:

IBM 300GL
Pentium II 350 Mhz
64 MB RAM
3GB HDD IDE
SO Debian 3.1 Sarge

I've realized that other equal machines (with same SO) suffer from the same problem. I have one with the same specs, but with Debian 4.0 Etch installed, running smoothly. Maybe some problem with the Sarge dist. Also, I have another one equal, but with 96MB RAM, running Sarge and no problems. Any thoughts?

Ah ok 64M RAM!

Look at this maybe, seems similar. Not a solution but general ideas..
