download 7 discs for debian?

I went to linuxiso.org and i was thinking about trying debian because i've heard it tends to be more stable, and i'm tired of not being able to use my computer whenever i want to (when mandrake crashes). But i noticed that there are 7 cds you can download for debian 3.0. Are they really all needed? it looks like there are 5 boot discs, can i just get one (and if so which one)?

i have never used debian before in my life, but by looking at the cd names on that site, i would think you would need cd 1, 6, 7
and select for cd 1 if you want us or non-us...so i would think you only need three, but lets just wait for a debianer to tell ya

for an almost completely naked install you will only need the first CD and download everything else you want.
here is a good install walkthrough.

Of all the cd's, you only need cd 1. The rest of the cd's have a bunch of software and things. usually the stuff you need is less than a 2MB download, so you won't have to insert a cd everytime it asks. Of course, this is only if you have a high speed connection. Dial up users should buy all 7. I made the mistake of downloading all 7 (took 14 hours!). The only one i use is cd1. but if i every am stuck w/ a computer w/o a connection, i can use all those cd's
