Debian + WineX + Steam

Im trying to set up Valves Steam through winex so i can play with my mates....

but i keep getting a message that freetype could not be loaded, which is probably the reason that theres no text in steam

has anyone got it working in Debian, i know it works on other distros, what packages do i need? i have the libfreetype6, libttf2, freetype2 and mstcorefonts packages installed, but its still not working, do i need other pakages? do i need to configure some file somewhere?

help greatly appriciated

- Stefan

In your /etc/X11/XF86Config-4. Is there a line for loading freetype, in the modules section?

I had the same problem. All I had to do was copy the marlette and tahoma fonts from my parents computer into ~/c/windows/Fonts

hmmm k

checked, there is a freetype in my load section of the XF86Config-4

Quote:

Section "Module"
Load "bitmap"
Load "dbe"
Load "ddc"
Load "extmod"
Load "freetype"
Load "glx"
Load "int10"
Load "record"
Load "speedo"
Load "type1"
Load "vbe"
EndSection
I also copied my entire fonts directory from a win98 install, to ../.transgaming/c_drive/windows/fonts, (the font dir is symlinked to /.transgaming_global/Fonts), which includes tahoma.ttf and marlett.ttf

any other suggestions?

For the benefit of anyone that may stumble across this thread the Steam.exe switch "-nodwrite" fixed the lack of text problem for me.
