Debian virtual consoles issue

Hi all,

I just recently installed Debian Sarge (but I had this problem with Sid on this system also). When I switch to differnt virtual consoles using CTRL-ALT-Fn (where n = 1 thru 6), I find myself stuck there. I can't switch back to X windows using CTRL-ALT-F7 or any of the other 5 virtual shells using the appropriate key combination. The only way to get back to X is to do a "killall XFree86" (X will reaquire focus when gdm restarts). What is going on here, and what can I do about it? Thanks for any help.

maybe you didn't configure X properly or it didn't configure itself well. Look at the xfree log and the driver you put in Xfree configuration. If you are using nvidia cards install proprietary drivers.

ok, thanks. i do have an nvidia card, and i'm curently using the vesa x driver, so i guess that is the issue. i was going to install the detonator drivers later, but i may as well do it now. thanks again.

When in VTs, you use JUST alt. To use VTs from X, use control alt.
