I know that Slackware is fast. But how abt it when compared to Debian unstable (don't compare with woody stable, since that would obviously favour debian).

Simply I wanted to have a LATEST debian system which is as fast as slackware. The main disadvantage of slackware is the package mamangement system. People say that slackware is based on umsdos arch which is mainly responsible for the improvement in speed Please note that I am not only talking abt booting time, but also the overal system performance (atleast for a desktop).

So what abt Debian when it comes to speed?

well a well configured slackware system should be about the same speed as a well configured debian system. if you want to increase speed you can switch to a light window manager, remove unnecessary daemons at startup, compile your own kernel, etc, etc. this is true for any linux distro.
