I have this package installed on my computer:
xserver-xorg-video-intel
I still can't get the onboard video to work.
Others using Linux have told me that they are using the onboard graphics.
I have the Bios set to integrated graphics > onboard
How would I check to see if the driver is being loaded; or how would I
load it?
Using Debian Lenny
I have this package installed on my computer:
xserver-xorg-video-intel
I still can't get the onboard video to work.
So X does not work at all?

You can see if it is being loaded by looking in your /var/log/Xorg.0.log
If it is not being loaded, you may need to explicitly tell X to use it, however X should be selecting that driver automatically. If you are can't solve this after looking at you Xorg.0.log, please post both that file and /etc/X11/xorg.conf (if it exists).
I tried to get the video to work, but was unsuccessful.
I can't get anything when I boot up with the monitor connected to the
onboard. I can't even get into setup.
This is part of my Xorg.0.log(I couldn't post it all)
I don;t have an xorg.conf. I can generate one with X -config if that
will help.

first thing to try is a live CD to see what works. If you can get to the command line try running:
/etc/init.d/gdm stop for (gnome desktop)
dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
/etc/init.d/gdm start
Dusted off my Dell GX 260 and installed Debian 5 Lenny.
Can you read this text ? Written on Debian 5 / GX 260.
Not that the x driver 'intel' is outrageous good, but works perfect
on this monitor = Compaq FP30A. Not necessarily with other monitors.
modinfo intel
modinfo: could not find module intel
I found the module for the i810
Code:
modinfo i810
filename: /lib/modules/2.6.26-2-686/kernel/drivers/char/drm/i810.ko
license: GPL and additional rights
description: Intel i810
author: VA Linux Systems Inc.
depends: drm
vermagic: 2.6.26-2-686 SMP mod_unload modversions 686
I used the xorg.conf file below for this: I changed Driver "nv"
for "i810" and deleted the following lines: VendorName "nVidia Corporation"
BoardName "NV6 [Vanta/Vanta LT]"
and tried booting up with video connected to the onboard,
(Bios: Primary video Controller was set to auto). This didn't work.
According to aptitude I have the intel driver installed: xserver-xorg-video-intel
why am I not finding it with modprobe?
Code:
Debian:~# aptitude search ~nintel
v intel-rng-tools
p intel2gas
i A xserver-xorg-video-intel
p xserver-xorg-video-intel-dbg
I can get the monitor working with a card I have borrowed: nvidia.
It is the only way I can get a screen working. When I connect to the
onboard video I can't get anything. I switched the Bios >
Integrated Devices > Video Graphics Controller to auto. It only gave
me a choice between that and agp.
Quote:
The real issue is the monitor. Try another one. And run Puppy 4.0.0,
which is the one working on any monitor with GX 260.
If I can get video with the nvidia card why can't I get it with the onboard?
Distribution: PCLinuxOS2021 CentOS7.9 + 50+ other Linux OS, for test only.

Rep:
The kernel module name is intel-agp.ko(.gz) which takes
care of using the chip together with the other chips
on the mother board.
But why ask about the kernel module ? ?
We already told you about the x driver in /usr/lib/......
That's the one, which is dealing with the graphics.
See post # 2 @evo2 , and post # 9.
Nvidia versus Intel driver :
The nvidia is just much more clever / well designed.
Nvidia working better in GX 260 : Old news. Nvidia
always works best.
There is also an x driver for nvidia in
/usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/ .
