debian keeps locking up

my debian install keeps locking up for no apparent reason. I am using squeeze and this just started happening about 2 months ago and i have searched and can find no solution.

just so you know when it locks up the mouse pointer will move but you can't do anything and the only way to reboot is to turn the computer off because none of the keys work to get to a console.

any help would be appreciated

What video card and driver are you using?

Have you check the ram or the power supply?

Does using the magic key sequence work, Alt+PrintScreen+R+S+E+I+U+O or are you having to do a hard shutdown?

Also what desktop are you using gnome or kde4?

The more information you supply the easier it is for people to help you.
