debian installation

I finally downloaded the debian sarge dvd with jigdo. Boot the dvd and want to start installation but the installer gives me:

There was a problem reading data from the CDROM. Please make sure it is in the drive. If retrying does not work, you should check the integrity of your CDROM.

Failed to copy file from CDROM. Retry?
Yes/No

Well I checked the integrity and it is ok.
This distrubution is starting to really get on my nerves. Has anyone experienced this? What to do now?

How far into the installation did this occur ? Is it for the same file if you repeat the installation ?

Hmm... not the best thing to say to a Debian forum, if you want any help

Debian is one of the simplest and cleanest distributions around---once you know what you're doing. Till then, it won't give you the same trainer wheels as Redhat perhaps, but if you read the documentation (www.debian.org/doc is a good place to start) and the many FAQs/HOWTOs on the web, you'll soon be up to speed.

Cheers,

mj

Hi,
Did you write you got the Sarge dvd and then tried to access it from your CD-rom drive ?
Isn't there a contradiction ? Did you d/load the dvd or cd install version ?
If there is just one CD, you should be able to d/load the rest from a Debian ftp
that's how I did it, anyway.
Try to be more precise with this dvd/cd rom issue, please

Actually, the setting up may not be as easy as other distros, but once it
works, it is rock hard.

Cheers

On a similar note... you may wish to simply use the new Sarge net installer over at www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer, thus only downloading the packages that you need, as you need them.

Macondo has written a good how-to over here: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...icle&artid=330.

Cheers,

mj

lose the dvd

Why do you want a dvd for sarge anyway? 2 months from now it's going to be old...
Just get the one CD netinstall and get everything done on the web!
