I installed backward Raspbian Buster on a PI2 server because the newer versions are screwed up for attaching my HP Deskjet 2544.
1. client 2x notebook 64bits Bullseye print/scan on that server
2. client a notebook 32bits bookworm print/scan on that server
3. client a desktop 64bits Bullseye is only recognizing the scanner (not printing)

When I try to start system-config-printer on the client 3, failures appear. See attachments.

Furthermore, CUPS interface started with http://localhost:631/admin/ in a browser start CUPS but dont see the network printer.

cat /var/log/cups/error_log
lpstat -a
This is weird because I cannot see difference between the clients 1 and 3.
Has anybody an idea where to find the issue or where to act in my system?

Hi.

I'd ignore most of your information, and concentrate on point 3, the machine failing. All the notebooks can print fine, so you can exonerate the Raspbian server as a possible source of issues.

Error 1 = permissions, IIRC. I don't know if that's the same as status 1, but you could check. I'd take on the desktop as a device that won't print, and do the familiar stuff. You have a couple of working examples, so you can even copy configs. Delete stuff and reinstall for starters.

Scanning is a different server, a different process. Write a note to self to make sure your next printer has an IP on your local network. It's pretty painless then - even mobile phones can print.

So far, after install of samba on the server for connecting later windooze machines, all clients show

on the client where the printer dont work..
a) system-config-printer dont start, "Error of the CUPS-Server", error "forbidden" message
b) the printer is found in http://localhost:631/admin/ but with the link dnssd://HP%20Deskjet%202540%20series%20%40%20piprinterserver._ipp._tcp.local/cups?uuid=xxxxxxxxxxx (on the working clients the link is implicitclass://HP_Deskjet_2540_series_piprinterserver/ )

This is the last status. I am still searching (reinstall cusps etc. on the client did not help).

According https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=340611 I tried to remove hplip

apt remove hplip
apt-get autoremove
ls /usr/share/hplip/
groups
root sys lpadmin

Is there any method to delete properly hplip?

would be nice to avoid that in the future. Uninstalling and reinstalling is not the best way to solve problems. Probably it was the easiest on windows, and probably it helps on linux sometimes, but no, this is not the way to do that.
It looks like you have a permission issue (something is Verboten), but actually I don't know what went wrong.
If you really want to remove a software [completely] you need to use apt purge <package>. You can safely remove __pycache__ dirs if you wish, and if you have uninstalled hplip you can safely remove /usr/share/hplip too.
And occasionally it may solve that permission issue too.

on 2 different clients I have now..

On one client, the error (the not working one), I have the error "Der Drucker »piprinterserver.local« kann nicht lokalisiert werden" by trying to have a test page.

I cannot remember where to find this definition in the client. Any idea?

I see at least 2 different error messages inside:
File "/usr/lib/cups/filter/hpcups" not available: No such file or directory
and
profile already exist.

removing lpadmin will definitely not help on these. hpcups probably belongs to the package hplip.

on the non working client: removing root from group lpadmin and sys, helped to start system-config-printer.
error on the client still there "Der Drucker » « kann nicht lokalisiert werden".
ippfind still dont see anything but now

few errors can be seen with cups-browsed. Any idea what it is coming from?

Finally, all works.

On the client which was not working:
- root has to be taken away from the lpadmin group (this will make possible the use of system-config-printer )
- "Browsing Off" in /etc/cups/cupsd.conf (NOT On)
- using system-config-printer by giving the uri 192.168.178.50 (IP of the server), made the printer appeared / was proposed (whatever ippfind dont see the printer)
