Debian 9-10: w3m localhost:631/printers gives me html-code ( I think )

Hello All,

I have this minor problem when managing printers using w3m on fully updated Debian9/10 laptops.

w3m http://debian.org gives me a "normal" "readable" page
w3m http://localhost:631 also gives me a "normal" "readable" page

I know of course normal and readable is open for interpretation.

but
w3m http://localhost:631/printers gives me......I think a page in html code?

What is tried so far is options like w3m -I utf-8
but to no avail.

Can anyone offer some advise?
Debian is great by the way.

Greetings, J.

What happens when you open the same page in a normal browser?
What do you expect to see on that page?
Can you show us the code?

Hello,

thanks for helping me out.

When surfing to localhost:631/printers I get a normal page displaying printers.

What do I expect to see: when I log in to a Centos laptop en run w3m I get this:

Quote:
[left] Home Administration Classes Online Help Jobs Printers [ ] ●

Search in Printers: [ ] [Search] [Clear]

Showing 23 of 23 printers.
What it looks like when I do the same thing inside Debian:

Quote:
!DOCTYPE HTML>
<html>
<head>
<link rel="stylesheet" href="/cups.css" type="text/css">
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="/apple-touch-icon.png" type="image/png">
<meta charset="utf-8">
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8">

<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=9">

I'm not sure I'm getting you. You mean like this? Maybe you would like to explain better?

"Home Administration Classes"? "Online Help Jobs"? Well there's printers also.
I still don't get it.

Are you sure that's ALL? because that's not even the beginning of the HTML code for a full web page (just part of the header)?

What is providing the localhost:631/printers page?

Hallo,

I'm sorry for not getting back to you.
I do appreciate the help though...

What I posted is the top of het w3m page... one can see the first example provides text, the second shows code....or what I consider to be code.

I don't see the point in copy-pasting the whole page, it's just more of this code.

Greetings, J.

I can confirm what the OP is "seeing" with debian 10. Viewing cups from a regular browser all pages look "normal". When viewing cups using w3m browser the main page is ok but any other page displays the page's html source code as posted.

I am not sure why at the moment but all you need to do is press the v key which switches between viewing source code and "normal mode".

Hello,

yes, that is exactly what I was looking for.
pressing v key solves the issue.

I absolutely need w3m to work on those printers remotely.
Thank you!

Greetings, J.
