Debian 4.x /Familex Will only display montior in 1280 x 1024, how do I change that

I am trying to use the new Familex linux distro which is based on Debian 4.0. The live CD loads fine, but then I immediately start getting error messages from my Samsung SyncMaster 731b monitor that I need to change the resolution to 1280 X 1024. This version of linux seems to be requiring it. I have used several other distros like, PC LINUX OS; Mint; Dream; Puppy etc, and have never had this problem before. I have tried two VGA settings VGA=768 which is Familex default, and VGA=791 from Ubuntu 8.04 but neither seems to work. any idea that will allow me to change it to my normal default, 1024 x768? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf and add in the resolution you want ..

Code:
Section "Screen"
        Identifier "Default Screen"
Device "nVidia Corporation NV40 [GeForce 6800]"
        Monitor "Generic Monitor"
        DefaultDepth 24

        SubSection "Display"
                Depth 24
                Modes "1280x1024" "1024x768"
        EndSubSection
EndSection
Restart X to apply (CTRL+ALT+BKSPACE)
