Date/Time of install

Does Debian keep a record of when it was installed? I want to find out how how long it has been installed for. I've found a registry key on my windows boxes with an install date/time, hopefully there is something similar for linux.

Note: I do mean install date/time, not uptime.

Haven't run Debian in almost a year, so I forgot where this is located, but
in Slackware reading the date and time from the output of "ls -alc /boot/"
will give you the time of the original install, plus any kernels you've installed
since then. If you haven't installed a new kernel, then "uname -a" will give
you the correct date.

Doing that didn't give the right date/time as I've installed new kernels since then and removed old ones. You're suggestion did help though as it prompted me to ls -la on /.
Some of the directories such as /mnt and /opt have the right date and time down to the closest minute. No seconds but for what I want this for it doesn't have to be that accurate.

Thanks.
