configuring suspend and sound card on debian 10.9

Dear all,

I have installed debian 10.9 on thinkpad e15 and there are still few things to configure, there are no sound, it says dummy output, how can I configure the sound card ?

#lspci shows:

Quote:
Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corporation Device
Another problem is that the trackpoint mouse with its buttons does not work, I tried configuring it using the help of thinkwiki page, but I have no previous experience with it and thus was not successful, I use linux since a while a go but never encountered this issue!

Another important problem is that the suspend does not work properly, when running
#systemctl suspend

the system suspends correctly, but after resuming it and logging in, in few seconds the computer automatically reboots!?

Any help or hints are greatly appreciated !

Thanks in advance,

Hi.

Are you running the "default" Genome?

I've* seen the sound issue get fixed a lot (and after just mentioning criss-crossing settings of our worlds in another thread) with GUIs, e.g: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1231...20-04-no-sound

Dose your /etc/apt/sources.list happen to have non-free listed (drivers) plus how much RAM you got( suspend may depend(?))?

I solved the audio problem by adding the line :
Quote:
options snd-hda-intel dmic_detect=0
to the file alsa-base.conf under/etc/modeprobe.d which did not exist before !

I still need to configure the suspend and the trackpoink!?

suspend is the most important so that I do not need to reboot all the time!

Thanks,

Thumbs up

Mileage may vary, as I'm on a Thinkpad T420 but have had no stability issues for years now with mainly Sid. IMO even stable is old. https://wiki.debian.org/DebianReleases

Have you gone over: https://wiki.debian.org/Suspend

searching: Thinkpad e15 trackpoint firmware Debian 10

...finds good hits to try? E.g: https://wiki.debian.org/InstallingDe...pad/Trackpoint

I hate to suggest non-free firmware but the hardware is, if all else fails?

Edit: I do want to add, that usually you should start multiple threads; now that one is [solved] it could have helped others find if they're having that exact problem.

I tried to install the gnome-shell-extention that is a button to suspend but it caused the same behavior!

I also tried the options mentioned on the thinkwiki page but did not succeed in making the trackpoint work.

Suspend is the main problem now, because I do npt need to keep my laptop running all the time nor to need to shut it down every day !

Also I do not know why, but sometimes the numbers buttons on the right of the keyboard does not work even when the numlock is disabled, so do any of you know why or have any suggestions as to how to activate it ??

Thank you all very much indeed in advance !

Mine has a function combo to turn on the number lock. How old is your keyboard? Does hibernate work?

I just bought the laptop !!

This is another problem, because while installing the os, I choosed to install all of debian under one partition, the /, and it automatically left only 1GB to swap in another partition, so I only have the root partition (/) and swap, as a result there is no enough space in swap to hibernate, I tried to shrink the / partition and give swap more gigabytes, but I was not able to umount it because it is in use, so if any of you can direct me as to how to solve this one more problem that would be great!!!

Thanks,

You'll have to search if a "swap file" will work but I would think so?

This one from a quick search looks pretty techie?: https://unix.stackexchange.com/quest...oting-a-livecd
...you can use whatever live operating system you happen to have lying around or https://gparted.org/livecd.php.

If I shrink the root partition by few GBs from its end, will that cause any loss of information or damage to the debian 10.9 installed on it ??

There's never any need to defragment in Linux so as long as you have enough space to shrink you can. https://www.debian.org/releases/lenn...h02s05.html.en

Add: as-always backups are your choice?!.

I extended the swap size and now running hibernate just causes the computer to simply shut down!

Try:
Code:
systemd-suspend
from /etc/systemd/sleep.conf or files in sleep.conf.d

If suspending the other way worked, shouldn't reboot afterwards unless something else is wrong? Have you tried it since swap expansion?

The same behavior!

All options of the SLEEP section in /etc/systemd/sleep.conf are commented, tried to uncomment all of them and that did not help either!

The point is that under the same distro (debian 10.9) on the old computer, they all are commented and it still can suspend and hibernate properly !!
Strange right ?

Thanks,

Is it possible that upgrading to Debian 11 can in any way solve the problem?
