I have installed knoppix and so far so great.
However I do have one problem. How do I change the settings from us to uk ?
I have searched but so far no luck
Edit the files:
/etc/sysconfig/i18n
/etc/profile
and change the lang parts to uk.
Then remove everything you don't want from /etc/locale.gen and do: apt-get install localepurge.
You could remove with apt a lot of kde-i18n-* files. Check with: COLUMNS=150 dpkg -l|grep i18n
Also try: dpkg-reconfigure locales
and check the output of: env
The general locale settings can be configured in Debian (as root) with "dpkg-reconfigure console-data" and "dpkg-reconfigure locales", but in KDE you also need to install the appropriate locale packages. I believe you'll want the "kde-i18n-engb" and "koffice-i18n-engb" packages. Then change the locale settings in KDE's Kontrol Center (or something like that -- I don't use KDE so I don't know the details ).
Should be under kcontrol -> Regional & Accessibility
The lang= cheatcode is meant for cd bootup. For a hdinstall you can append it to lilo.conf or menu.lst but setting it the debian way should work. The lang cheat should be used before installing to hd.
If I remember, you do something with that flag in the system tray (next to the clock), I think you either double click it or right click it, and then you should have a window open where you can find the English (GB) setting. Make sure it has the highest priority i.e. top of the list. I'm not sure about harddisk drive installation though, because I have only ever used Knoppix from the cd.
