cdrom not seen during istallation

i'm trying the install a dabian sarge. all goes ok up to the first reboot. when i have to configure apt to install all the other packages the sys can't see and mount the cdrom. i logged in via another console to inspect fstab. the relevant line says:
/dev/hdc /media/cdrom0 ro,user,noauto 0 0
it seems looking ok but the /media does not exist. i created it but still can't mount anything.
i'm confused. help please.

Hi

As root try the following

dpkg-reconfigure discover1

It will ask if you want it to manage sym links to cdroms select no

Reboot and you should find the cd mounts

There are some entries missing in your fstab entry, here is a snapshot of mine:
/dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom auto umask=0,user,iocharset=iso8859-15,codepage=850,noauto,ro,exec,users 0 0

i don't know why but there was a big mess in devices and links to them. i had to enter the system via console and fix it up, but now it's ok.
