We have been looking online for a solution for almost 2 days now with no luck.
Very new to linux

We have SimplyMepis and we want it to hand out ip's to our two WinXP pro computers. DHCP3 is installed and we have Guide and GuardDog (Guarddog is currently shut off)
We tried to set up the dhcpd.conf file the way a few places said but it is not working, so we want to start over.

Can anyone help? Ive read everywhere how easy it is...

ok Now, we just rebooted and it gave ip's for about a minute then we lost them. Only happened once tho...

We probably need to see some configuration from your dhcp server.
Also it would be good to get an idea of what the windoze boxes are doing. Perhaps boot knoppix on one, and send out the DHCP request log on bootup.

Jason actually got it working a little bit ago...now we just have to figure out how to configure Samba so that the two winxp pc's can access each others files.
I wish i could skip the learning part
