Can't Configure Display?

I just installed Debian and I'm totally new with debian, I was told that I could reconfigure my screen by using "/etc/X11/XF86Config-4" but I can't seem to get it to work, I want "1152x864""1024x768""800x600", that's what I have in Fedora 5 and it seems ok.
I also tried to select "dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86"
and I entered my video card name EVA EVGA Display, no dice?
Need some guru to walk me through. Thanks.

Sorry, no guru. But in the past I've had luck getting it to work by just selecting the generic VESA driver.

What is your video card and monitor?
