Red face c compiler error


Please help i get the error below

mikey:/home/mike/Desktop/toshutils-2.0.1# ./configure
loading cache ./config.cache
checking host system type... i686-pc-linux-gnu
checking whether make sets ${MAKE}... yes
checking for gcc... gcc
checking whether the C compiler (gcc -s) works... no
configure: error: installation or configuration problem: C compiler cannot create executables.
mikey:/home/mike/Desktop/toshutils-2.0.1#


What am i missing in my system? Please help Rolling Eyes

First make sure that you have full access to the directory where you are working. For example don't use /tmp as it may be mounted with the noexec option.

Then check if you have the binutils package installed.

You need binutils installed and at the same time you may as well install build-essential just to make sure that nothing else is missing.

Thanx all for quick reply but am still getting an error message after installing all that. The error is as below when i run ./configure

checking for xmessage... /usr/bin/xmessage
checking for wall... /usr/bin/wall
checking for yywrap in -lfl... no
checking for X... (cached) no
configure: error:
*** X libraries or include files not found. Check 'config.log' for
*** more details.
mikey:/home/mike/Desktop/toshutils-2.0.1#

please help out

You need x-dev now and BTW you should not be doing this as root you can do all you need to do except the make install part as normal user even then you might want to use the checkinstall (in place of make install) package to make a .deb package that you can install. For other errors you will want to install apt-file then as root apt-file update and you can as normal user apt-file search file/missing.h to find the package it is in so you can install it.
